ASSA500
The ASSA500 model is the earliest version of the ASSA AIDS and Demographic model to be developed by the Actuarial Society of South Africa. When it was developed, the model was intended to be representative of the epidemic in black South Africans, and unlike subsequent versions of the ASSA model, it is not representative of the general South African population. It is no longer applicable, either to the black South African population or the general South African population, as it does not allow for the effects of HIV prevention and treatment programmes which have been implemented, and it does not take into account recent evidence regarding the relationship between HIV prevalence in antenatal clinic attenders and HIV prevalence in the general female population.
